What We Believe:
Lake Wateree Presbyterian Church is a community church that serves as a home for all Christians seeking a place to belong. It is a place where we worship the Lord together and strive to embody Christ’s welcome in our warm and friendly atmosphere. Through unity of the Spirit we work together, helping and encouraging one another in our quest to be faithful Christians.
Lake Wateree Presbyterian's mission is to nurture and develop each member to the full potential of their gifting, and to demonstrate God’s love through evangelism and outreach. In worship, we strive for each individual to experience God’s presence. Through preaching and teaching, we wish all to hear God’s message of healing, hope, and wholeness, and be equipped for a life of faith and ministry.
Our History
The beautiful grounds of the church were carved out of the wilderness by the hearty little core of original members of the church. They worked hard to clear the lot and make it beautiful. The building's design was planned with much care and thought for the future.
It all began with a meeting in a home to organize a group who shared the desire to start a new church in the local Lake Wateree area. Delegates from the group approached the Presbyterian USA office in Columbia seeking help. The Presbytery assisted by providing a minister for Sunday worship service. We held services at the unused chapel at Fairfield Nursing Home until our church was built. The first assigned minister, Larry Crocker, worked with the steering and building committees and other dedicated people in developing Lake Wateree Presbyterian Church.
Our first service at our new Church was held on June 17, 1987. On September 1, 1987 Dr. Guy Oliver became the Church’s minister. The Church became an official congregation of the Presbyterian Church USA on December 4, 1988. There were 38 charter members. We have grown steadily since then.
The Church’s primary mission is to provide a place of worship for people of all faiths. It was organized with weekend and permanent residents of Lake Wateree and surrounding areas in mind. Our location gives residents and visitors of the lake area a convenient place to worship.
